The correct switch should be selected according to the electrical rating, circuit function, number of poles, momentary or maintained operation, mounting size, terminal type, sealing requirement and operating environment.

A momentary switch has one or more temporary operating positions. When the actuator is released, it returns to its designated normal position.
A maintained switch, also called a latching switch, remains in the selected position until it is operated again.

Front panel sealing means that the exposed components above the mounting panel are protected when the switch is correctly installed with the required sealing components.
It does not mean that the rear housing, terminals or wiring connections are waterproof.
A fully sealed or potted wire-lead version provides additional protection around the rear structure, terminals and cable outlet. The exact sealing area depends on the product design.
IP ratings describe protection against dust and water under specified test conditions.
Depending on the product series, the IP rating may apply only to components above the mounting panel or to a more fully sealed structure. The applicable sealing area and test conditions should be confirmed in the individual product specification.
An IP rating does not mean that every part of the switch is waterproof under all installation and operating conditions.
The sealing performance depends on correct installation. The panel cutout, mounting surface, sealing washer, O-ring and mounting nut must be properly installed.
The rear terminals and wire connections may require additional protection if they are exposed to water, dust or other contaminants.
